Welcome to Culberson County Airport (KVHN)

Culberson County Airport (KVHN) is a public/semi-private use airport located in Van Horn, Texas, serving as a critical infrastructure hub for the Trans-Pecos Region. Positioned at an elevation of 3,829 feet, the airport currently features 6,005-foot asphalt Runway 03/21 and 5,353-foot asphalt Runway 07/25. KVHN supports a wide spectrum of aviation activity, including general aviation, charter operations, mineral logistics, emergency air response, and energy-sector transport. Its strategic location near U.S. Highway 90 and Interstate 10 provides seamless ground connectivity to regional freight and industrial corridors across Far West Texas.

  • Runway 03/21

Runway 03/21 measures 6,005 feet in length and 76 feet in width (1,830 x 23 meters) with a well-maintained asphalt surface. The runway is equipped with LED edge lighting and supports both daytime and nighttime operations.

Runway 03 is located at an elevation of 3,956 feet MSL, with a left traffic pattern and a magnetic heading of 035° (045° true). It features non-precision markings in good condition, a 2-light PAPI system on the left side set to a 3.00-degree glide slope, and a marked, unlit touchdown zone. Previous obstructions include 10-foot brush approximately 270 feet from threshold and 250 feet left of centerline, requiring a 7:1 slope to clear. However, recent airfield improvements have cleared vegetation within 45 feet of the runway edge, enhancing lateral obstacle clearance and improving approach margins.

Runway 21 sits at an elevation of 3,918.3 feet MSL, also with a left-hand pattern and a heading of 215° magnetic (225° true). It shares the same non-precision markings, 2-light PAPI system, and touchdown point configuration. Historical approach obstructions consisted of 12-foot brush approximately 258 feet from threshold and 130 feet right of centerline, with a 4:1 slope to clear. As of 2025, brush clearance has been completed 45 feet off each runway edge, improving both lateral and longitudinal safety zones during final approach and rollout.

    Runway 07/25

Runway 07/25 measures 5,353 feet in length and 75 feet in width (1,632 x 23 meters), also surfaced with asphalt in good condition. Markings are currently basic and in fair condition, with medium-intensity edge lights and full-length usability for general aviation and small turboprop aircraft.

Runway 07 is positioned at 3,956.8 feet MSL, with a left traffic pattern and 074° magnetic heading (084° true). It includes a marked but unlit touchdown zone. Prior approach path obstructions consisted of 15-foot brush located 276 feet from threshold and 125 feet off both sides of centerline, requiring a 5:1 slope to clear. With recent 45-foot lateral brush clearance completed on both edges, approach safety and visibility have significantly improved, particularly for VFR pattern entries and stabilized final descent.

Runway 25, at 3,910.7 feet MSL, also operates with a left-hand traffic pattern and a heading of 254° magnetic (264° true). It includes the same basic markings and an unlit touchdown zone. There are no known obstructions on approach, and with the new 45-foot-wide cleared safety margins on both sides, Runway 25 offers one of the cleanest final approach profiles on the field, ideal for both day and dusk operations.
